Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal has received a significant boost with the commitment of high IQ, option route wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw.
Upshaw, a standout from Phenix City (Ala.) Central, pledged his commitment to Miami on Saturday evening. Known for his exceptional football intelligence and route-running skills, Upshaw has drawn comparisons to Miami’s own Xavier Restrepo, who has thrived in college football due to his proficiency in option routes.
InsideTheU caught up with Cody Sanders, the wide receiver coach at Phenix City Central, to get his insights on Upshaw’s commitment. Sanders, who works directly with the pass catchers at the Yellowhammer State powerhouse under head coach Patrick Nix, had high praise for Upshaw’s abilities.
Nix, a former college offensive coordinator and father of first-round NFL draft pick Bo Nix, has built a strong program at Phenix City Central, and Upshaw has been a key player in their offense. Standing at 5-foot-11.5 and weighing 180 pounds, Upshaw brings a combination of size, speed, and football IQ that makes him a valuable asset for the Hurricanes.
Miami’s addition of Upshaw reflects their commitment to enhancing their offensive arsenal with versatile and intelligent players. With his ability to excel in option routes, Upshaw is expected to follow in the footsteps of Xavier Restrepo and make a significant impact on Miami’s offense. Coach Cristobal and his staff are undoubtedly excited about the potential Upshaw brings to the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
