Gotay, who officially entered the transfer portal on June 10 after an extensive six-year tenure with the Terrapins, brings a wealth of experience to Auburn. He will utilize his COVID year of eligibility to play his seventh year of college football. Gotay also received a redshirt year after appearing in just four games as a true freshman in 2018 and a medical redshirt following a season-ending injury in Maryland’s season opener in 2021.
Throughout his career at Maryland, Gotay amassed 133 total tackles, seven tackles for a loss, three sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble. His most productive season came in 2023, where he appeared in all 13 games, recording 44 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, and 2.5 sacks. He also led the Terrapins with six tackles in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl against Auburn.
Originally rated as a 3-star recruit from North Fort Myers, Florida, Gotay chose Maryland over offers from schools such as Arkansas, Appalachian State, Illinois, Liberty, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and UCF.

Gotay becomes Auburn’s second transfer linebacker this offseason, joining former Duke linebacker Dorian Mausi Jr., who signed with the Tigers in December and also has one year of eligibility remaining.
Together, Gotay and Mausi will add valuable experience to Auburn’s linebacker unit, which returns Eugene Asante, Austin Keys, and Robert Woodyard. The Tigers have also signed talented freshmen linebackers Demarcus Riddick and DJ Barber, bolstering the depth and future potential of their defensive lineup.
