Breaking: Patriots’ 28-year-old Sensational Star Goes Viral for His Comment to HC Jerod MayoOver NFL Award…

Despite a challenging season for the New England Patriots, safety Kyle Dugger was a standout. The “complete player” has now been recognized among the top 10 safeties in the NFL, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who consulted with unnamed executives, coaches, and scouts. Dugger is ranked eighth among the league’s premier safeties.

Fowler highlighted Dugger’s versatility, noting, “Dugger is best when close to the line of scrimmage but can play — and punish — in the open field, too.” An NFL personnel executive praised Dugger’s physicality and intelligence, stating, “He’s become more of a complete player every year. He will physically strike you.”

Dugger’s rise from an unheralded second-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft to a versatile star has been remarkable. His development is one of the rare successes from the latter years of Bill Belichick’s tenure as head coach. Belichick’s successor, Jerod Mayo, will continue to rely on Dugger’s skill set to bolster the defense.

Kyle Dugger Deserves Plaudits

Dugger has evolved from a downhill thumper to a rangy ball hawk, showcasing his opportunistic streak with nine interceptions over the last three seasons. One notable interception occurred against the Miami Dolphins in Week 8, where Dugger anticipated Tyreek Hill’s route and made a crucial play.

This recognition reflects Dugger’s improved coverage skills and physicality. At 6-foot-1, 216 pounds, Dugger has always been able to play physically against receivers in short areas, as evidenced by his one-on-one matchup with Atlanta Falcons’ tight end Kyle Pitts in 2021.

Taking away an opponent’s most versatile threat is what elevates safeties to elite status. Dugger’s place in this elite bracket earned him a new four-year contract worth $58 million this offseason. He is the first player drafted by Belichick in the first two rounds to earn a second deal since safety Duron Harmon in 2013.

Patriots Are Talent-Rich at Safety

Dugger’s rise enhances the Patriots’ secondary depth, which includes fellow safety Jabrill Peppers. Peppers had a productive season with 75 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions. However, with the emergence of 2023 third-round pick Marte Mapu, Peppers could be a trade candidate.

For now, Mayo and new defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington will likely utilize all three safeties to implement their opponent-specific schemes. Dugger’s performance this season could see him climb even higher in next year’s rankings, possibly alongside a teammate.
