Trade Target from the Colorado Rockies with 1.5 Years of Team Control Remaining
The Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies are set to begin a four-game series on July 1, concluding on Independence Day. During this series, the Brewers are projected to face a starting pitcher who could become a significant trade target for them.
Milwaukee Brewers Trade Target from the Colorado Rockies: Cal Quantrill
The 29-year-old Cal Quantrill is having an impressive season, making him a prime candidate for a trade. Over 16 starts, he has posted a 3.78 ERA and has shown flashes of dominance. Notably, during May, Quantrill had a 1.71 ERA over five starts, pitching a minimum of six innings in each game. His season ERA was as low as 3.30 in mid-June.
Cal Quantrill’s Salary for 2024 and 2025
In the off-season, the Rockies acquired right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill after he was designated for assignment by the Cleveland Guardians. The Rockies agreed to pay him $6.55 million for the 2024 season. According to MLB Trade Rumors, his projected arbitration salary for 2025 could be around $10 million. Quantrill is set to become a free agent after the 2025 season.
Are the Colorado Rockies Open to Trading Cal Quantrill?
As of June 23, MLB Insider Jon Morosi reported that the Rockies had not discussed trading Cal Quantrill. Given that Colorado is not in playoff contention this year, and with 1.5 years of team control remaining, Quantrill’s trade value is currently at its peak. The Rockies could choose to wait and trade him before the 2025 trade deadline or offer him a contract extension to keep him beyond 2025.

Before joining the Rockies, Quantrill was a key member of the Cleveland Guardians’ starting rotation during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, posting ERAs of 2.89 and 3.38, respectively. Originally drafted eighth overall by the San Diego Padres in 2016, he was traded to Cleveland in 2020 as part of the Mike Clevinger and Greg Allen deal.
It will be interesting to see if the Rockies decide to trade Cal Quantrill less than one season into his tenure with the team. The Brewers are expected to face him on the mound on Thursday, July 4.
