Breaking: Maple Leafs Confirmed the signing Two Stanley Cup Winning players to Multi-Year Deal Worth…

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made significant additions to their roster, signing defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Chris Tanev to multi-year contracts. These moves aim to bolster the team’s defensive depth ahead of the new NHL season.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson Joins the Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs have signed Oliver Ekman-Larsson to a four-year deal worth $3.5 million per season, including a 16-team no-trade list, as reported by NHL insider Darren Dreger. Ekman-Larsson, drafted sixth overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2006, spent 11 years with the team before being traded to the Vancouver Canucks. After two years in Vancouver, he was bought out and subsequently signed with the Florida Panthers.

With this signing, Toronto’s cap space is now just over $1.2 million.

Fan Reactions to the Ekman-Larsson Deal

The signing of Ekman-Larsson has elicited mixed reactions from Maple Leafs fans. Some believe that his presence will solidify the defense, while others view the contract as an overpay, particularly given Ekman-Larsson’s age and recent performance.

Toronto Adds Chris Tanev to Defense

In addition to Ekman-Larsson, the Maple Leafs have signed Chris Tanev to a six-year deal worth $4.5 million per season. Toronto acquired Tanev’s rights on June 29 and quickly secured the contract, bringing the defenseman to his hometown team.

“It’s super-exciting for me to come home and play for a team that has so much history,” Tanev said. “It’s a team with elite talent, some of the best players in the world.”

Timothy Liljegren Re-Signs

To further strengthen their defensive unit, the Maple Leafs re-signed Timothy Liljegren to a two-year, $6 million deal. “Feels good. Toronto is always the place I wanted to be. I’m happy we got it done,” Liljegren commented.

Maple Leafs’ Defensive Lineup

With these new additions, the Maple Leafs’ defensive unit now includes Morgan Reilly, Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Timothy Liljegren, Jake McCabe, Simon Benoit, and Conor Timmins. These moves reflect Toronto’s commitment to building a formidable defense as they aim for a successful season.
