Breaking: Bruins Set to Land Linus Ullmark’s Replacement as GM Shares Honest Admission
Linus Ullmark Gives Update on the Future of Bruins’ “Goalie Hug”
It’s the end of an era in Boston. The Bruins traded Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators on Monday, breaking up their formidable goaltending tandem and shifting their focus to Jeremy Swayman. While this move answered many questions, it also raised a prominent inquiry from fans: What happens to the beloved “goalie hug”?
In his first media appearance in Ottawa on Wednesday, Ullmark addressed this concern, clarifying that the tradition would not continue with either team. “That’s out of respect for me and Sway,” Ullmark said, according to Bruce Garrioch of TSN.
Ullmark emphasized that it wouldn’t feel right for Swayman to start hugging Joonas Korpisalo, nor for Ullmark to embrace Anton Forsberg. This transition marks a chance for both the Bruins and Ullmark to start new traditions, with each goaltender stepping into a primary role for their respective teams.
The Bruins, while saying goodbye to Ullmark, will now look ahead with Jeremy Swayman as their lead goalie, eager to establish new rituals and continue their pursuit of excellence on the ice. Meanwhile, Ullmark and Swayman will both have the opportunity to shine as number one goaltenders, bringing their talents to the forefront of their new environments.
