SAD NEWS: Leafs Face Major Setback With the Departure Of Another Key Player…

Tyler Bertuzzi Set to Join Buffalo Sabres

As the NHL free agency period approaches, the Buffalo Sabres find themselves at a crucial juncture. With the 2023/2024 season concluded, General Manager Kevyn Adams must strategize for the future. One player the Sabres should consider in free agency is left winger Tyler Bertuzzi.

Last season, Bertuzzi played 80 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, scoring 21 goals and recording 22 assists for a total of 43 points, along with a +2 rating. Adams has expressed the need to add a top-six scorer during the offseason, and if other options fall through, Bertuzzi would be an ideal acquisition.

Bertuzzi brings more than just scoring ability; he’s known for his gritty playing style, something the Sabres lack. Signing him would significantly bolster the team’s physical presence. In the postseason with the Maple Leafs, Bertuzzi managed one goal and three assists. However, during the 2022/2023 season with the Boston Bruins, he notched five goals and five assists, showcasing his potential in critical games.

Bertuzzi’s experience in the Atlantic Division, having played for the Detroit Red Wings before moving to Boston and Toronto, makes him a valuable asset. His best season was in 2021/2022 with the Red Wings, where he scored 30 goals and had 32 assists.

For the Sabres, who are eager to end their playoff drought, adding a player like Bertuzzi could be transformative. He offers offensive production and a physical edge, complementing the existing core of players.

Bertuzzi’s cap hit with Toronto last season was $5,500,000, a figure that Buffalo could likely match depending on their cap space. Acquiring Bertuzzi would be a strategic move, aligning with the Sabres’ goal of building a competitive and resilient team for the upcoming season.
