Breaking: General Manager Brad Treliving Makes Big Announce Ahead of the 2024-25 Season Amid Significant Changes to the Leafs Coaching Staff…

The Toronto Maple Leafs have appointed Marc Savard as an assistant coach to Craig Berube’s coaching staff for the upcoming 2024-25 NHL season.

General Manager Brad Treliving has made significant modifications to the Leafs’ coaching team this offseason. These changes began with the firing of head coach Sheldon Keefe, followed by the hiring of Craig Berube as the new head coach. Treliving then brought on Lane Lambert as an associate coach, and now Marc Savard as an assistant coach.

The only remaining member from Keefe’s staff is Mike Van Ryn.

Fans eagerly await to see if Berube and his new team can implement a system that will improve the Leafs’ overall performance, especially in the playoffs. Anything short of reaching the Eastern Conference Final might be considered a failure in Berube’s first season. The hope is that the players will adapt to the new system, showing noticeable improvement by late October or early November. Under Keefe, the lack of player accountability was a significant issue, something Berube and his staff are expected to address effectively. Here is a look at the complete Leafs coaching staff for this season.

Toronto Maple Leafs 2024-25 Coaching Staff
Craig Berube – Head Coach

Craig Berube becomes the 32nd head coach in the history of the Maple Leafs. He previously led the St. Louis Blues for five and a half seasons, winning the Stanley Cup in 2019. Before St. Louis, Berube coached the Philadelphia Flyers from 2013 to 2015. As a player, he appeared in 40 games for the Leafs during the 1991-1992 season.

Lane Lambert – Associate Coach

Lane Lambert joins the Leafs after six seasons with the New York Islanders, where he served four years as an associate coach under Barry Trotz and two seasons as head coach. Prior to that, Lambert worked with Trotz for four seasons with the Washington Capitals and three seasons with the Nashville Predators, contributing to the Capitals’ 2018 Stanley Cup win. Lambert is expected to oversee the penalty kill for the Leafs.

Marc Savard – Assistant Coach

Marc Savard was hired on Sunday to round out Berube’s coaching staff. He previously worked with Berube during the 2019-20 season with the St. Louis Blues and served as head coach for the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires from 2021 to 2023. Last season, he managed the Calgary Flames’ power play as an assistant coach. In his NHL career, Savard tallied 207 goals and 499 assists for 706 points across 807 games, playing for the New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, Atlanta Thrashers, and Boston Bruins. Savard will be responsible for running the Leafs’ power play.

Mike Van Ryn – Assistant Coach

Mike Van Ryn, who joined the Leafs last season, will continue in his role as defense coach under Berube. He previously worked with Berube on the Blues’ coaching staff, spending five seasons there and contributing to their 2019 Stanley Cup victory.

Curtis Sanford remains the goaltending coach, Jordan Bean continues as the video coordinator and statistical analyst, Sam Kim will carry on as the video and coaching coordinator, and Duante Abercrombie will continue as the coaching development associate.
