The Boston Bruins made a significant move Monday evening, trading goaltender Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators. In exchange, the Bruins received forward Mark Kastelic, goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, and the 25th overall pick in this year’s draft. This trade marks the end of Ullmark’s three-season tenure with the Bruins, which began with a four-year contract signed in July 2021.
Following the trade, Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney issued a statement regarding the transaction:
“The Boston Bruins would like to thank Linus, Moa, Harry, and Lily for all of their contributions to the Bruins’ family,” the statement read. “Linus is a Vezina-winning goalie who was a star on and off the ice. We want to wish Linus and his family much success and happiness as he continues his career in Ottawa.”
With Ullmark’s departure, Jeremy Swayman is now established as the Bruins’ clear No. 1 goaltender for the 2024-25 season. Additionally, the Bruins announced a one-year, two-way contract extension for 26-year-old goaltender Brandon Bussi on Monday.
The trade also gives Boston a first-round selection in the upcoming NHL draft, marking their first pick in the opening round since 2021. The Bruins are slated to make their selection on Friday night.
