Breaking: Bruins GM Don Sweeney Announces Key Signing to Two-Way Contract

On Sunday, June 23, 2024, Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced the signing of defenseman Ian Mitchell to a one-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000 for the 2024-25 season.

Mitchell, serving as a depth defenseman for the Bruins, appeared in 13 games during the 2023-24 season, contributing two assists, a plus-six rating, and ten penalty minutes. Throughout his career, spanning parts of four seasons, Mitchell has played 95 NHL games, recording four goals, 14 assists, and a total of 18 points with a minus-15 rating. He spent the majority of the 2023-24 season with the Providence Bruins, the team’s AHL affiliate, where he played 42 games, scoring six goals and 18 assists for 24 points, with a plus-ten rating.

Boston Bruins Sign Depth Defenseman

A native of St. Albert, Alberta, Mitchell was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2nd round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, 57th overall, after three years at the University of Denver. The 25-year-old right-shot defenseman was acquired by the Bruins along with Alec Regula in exchange for Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno on June 26, 2023.
