Brad Treliving Reveals Potential Path for Maple Leafs to Re-Sign Mitch Marner.
Despite ongoing trade rumors surrounding Mitch Marner this season, there is a possibility that the star winger may not be traded and could instead sign an extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
On June 17, TSN NHL insider Darren Dreger shared his insights on TSN 1050’s “First Up,” suggesting that the Maple Leafs are more inclined to re-sign Marner rather than trade him.
“Are we so sure Toronto doesn’t want to extend Mitch? I’m not. I think GM Brad Treliving would rather extend Marner than trade him. But they’re not having those discussions yet. It’s still early; it’s very premature across the board,” Dreger stated.
Adding to this speculation, former NHL player and current “Spittin’ Chiclets” podcast host Paul Bissonnette reported on June 18 that he had heard discussions were underway in Toronto regarding an extension for Marner.
Last season, Marner delivered an impressive performance with 26 goals and 59 assists, totaling 85 points in 69 regular-season games for the Maple Leafs. His future with the team remains a hot topic as the possibility of an extension looms.
