Latest Bruins Updates: Boston Bruins Confirm Departure of Key Player

Trade discussions have intensified on Thursday afternoon, with multiple sources indicating that Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark may be traded by the end of the week. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Ottawa Senators are stepping up their efforts to acquire a goaltender, with Ullmark being a prime target. The Senators, armed with two first-round draft picks, are in a strong position to make an attractive offer.

The Bruins, however, are not interested in taking back goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, who has four years remaining on his contract. Instead, Boston is prepared to re-sign Jeremy Swayman and consider AHL goalie Brandon Bussi as a backup option. Additionally, Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney has long been interested in defenseman Jakob Chychrun. With Chychrun due for a new deal next season, the financials could align for a potential acquisition.

Ullmark, who has a 14-team no-trade list, is reportedly willing to waive his clause for Ottawa. This willingness simplifies the potential trade and suggests that negotiations between the teams are well-advanced.

The key question now is the potential return for Ullmark. Ottawa holds the seventh and 25th picks in the 2024 NHL Draft, the latter originally belonging to Boston. Other teams in need of goaltending include Toronto, Detroit, and Carolina, though Toronto is on Ullmark’s no-trade list. Meanwhile, New Jersey and Los Angeles have already secured goaltenders, making Boston and Ottawa the most likely trade partners at this stage.

This season, Ullmark posted a 22-10-7 record with a 2.57 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. The 30-year-old Swedish goaltender, who shared duties with Swayman, only started one playoff game during the Bruins’ postseason run. Ullmark has one year remaining on his $5 million contract with Boston.
