Boston Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark has reportedly included the Toronto Maple Leafs on his no-trade list, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period. Ullmark, entering the final year of his four-year, $20 million deal, is expected to be traded as Jeremy Swayman takes over as the Bruins’ starting goalie.
Despite Toronto being linked to Ullmark in potential trade rumors, Pagnotta reports that the Leafs are not an option due to Ullmark’s 15-team no-trade clause, which includes Toronto.
“There is a growing belief that Ullmark will find a new home within the next two weeks… Bruins GM Don Sweeney is expected to escalate trade discussions soon, though the number of teams in the hunt remains unclear,” Pagnotta wrote.
The Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, and Carolina Hurricanes are among the teams exploring their goaltending options, with Ottawa pushing hard for Ullmark. However, the Leafs are out of the running due to the no-trade clause.
Ullmark’s Performance and Contract Situation
Ullmark posted a 22-10-7 record with a 2.57 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage last season. In the playoffs against Toronto, he had a 3.90 GAA and a .886 save percentage in two starts.
Potential Goalie Targets for the Maple Leafs
With Ullmark off the table, the Maple Leafs are exploring other goaltending options. The team has been linked to Laurent Brossoit, Anthony Stolarz, and Cam Talbot. With Ilya Samsonov expected to leave in free agency, the Leafs aim to add a top goalie to form a tandem with Joseph Woll.
Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving emphasized the importance of acquiring a top-tier goaltender this offseason. “I believe in Joe as a goaltender. We have to support Joe. Ilya’s contract is up, but we certainly have to try to put ourselves in a position where we don’t have the second-best goaltender in each of these series,” Treliving stated.
Free agency opens on July 1, when Toronto will likely move to sign a new goalie.
Ullmark’s Potential Move to Ottawa
Despite Ullmark’s no-trade list, Pagnotta reports that he would waive it to join the Ottawa Senators if a deal is finalized. Talks between the Bruins and Senators are ongoing, though Boston is not interested in taking back Joonas Korpisalo in a trade due to his $4 million cap hit over four more years. Ottawa GM Steve Staios will need to get creative to land Ullmark or another top goaltender.
The Senators are determined to secure a starting goalie, and Ullmark remains their top choice.
