SAD NEWS: 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Provides Worrying Injury Updates With High-Ranked Star Out With a Critical Injury Blow…

George Kittle Provides Injury Update That Could Cause Concern

The latest revelation from George Kittle raises concerns for the All-Pro tight end as the 2024 season approaches.

George Kittle’s Health Concerns

Kittle recently admitted to losing nearly 30 pounds after undergoing offseason surgery, a factor that might affect his performance in 2024.

Kittle, an essential player for the San Francisco 49ers both on and off the field, has a history of injuries. Earlier this offseason, he disclosed that he played much of 2023 with a core muscle injury that eventually required surgery. On the bright side, Kittle expects to be ready for training camp, starting in late July.

However, in a recent episode of the Bussin’ with the Boys Podcast (via NBC Sports Bay Area), Kittle shared a concerning aspect of his recovery.

Weight Loss Post-Surgery

Kittle revealed that he lost nearly 30 pounds after his surgery, dropping from his ideal playing weight of 250 pounds.

“I couldn’t lift,” Kittle explained. “I couldn’t do any upper body because of my shoulder and my rib, and I couldn’t do lower [body] because of my core surgery. … I didn’t lift from the Super Bowl until like almost mid-March.”

He mentioned that he “went a month without doing anything,” as required by his recovery process.

Potential Impact on the 49ers

This significant weight loss could be worrisome, given the thin depth chart behind Kittle, even after signing former Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas. Kittle’s aggressive playing style and injury history add to the concern that these offseason challenges might affect his performance during the regular season.

Despite these challenges, Kittle remains optimistic. “I knew a bunch of guys that had gone through it,” he said. “I called some people and they were like, ‘Hey, you’re gonna feel great, just like the first month or so is going to suck, and after that, you’re going to come back.'”

Looking Ahead

Training camp will be Kittle’s first test to prove that his offseason setbacks won’t hinder his 2024 performance. If he can return to near full strength, this setback will likely become a minor footnote.

For now, the hope is that Kittle’s recovery continues positively, ensuring he remains the pivotal force the 49ers rely on.
