The Atlanta Braves will strive to complete a series sweep on Wednesday as they conclude a three-game set against the Detroit Tigers. With impressive pitching and just enough offense, the Braves secured two narrow 2-1 victories in the first two games. The series finale promises an exciting pitching duel between Atlanta’s Reynaldo Lopez and Detroit’s Tarik Skubal.
Lopez, a standout story this season, has excelled in transitioning from the bullpen to the starting rotation. His 1.69 ERA would lead the majors if he had enough innings to qualify. In his last outing against the Orioles, Lopez allowed only two hits and matched his season-high with eight strikeouts over six scoreless innings. He has conceded two earned runs or fewer in 11 of his 12 starts this season.
Similarly, Skubal has been a key player for the Tigers, boasting a 2.20 ERA, the sixth best in the majors, and tying for second with a 2.7 fWAR. In his last start, Skubal allowed six hits and four runs over 6 1/3 innings against the Astros. Wednesday’s game will mark his first career start against the Braves.
Offensively, Jarred Kelenic has been pivotal, going 6-for-18 since moving to the leadoff spot. Austin Riley, despite going hitless on Tuesday, has been in excellent form with an 8-for-16 record on the homestand, including three doubles, three homers, six runs, and eight RBIs.
Wednesday’s game has an early start at 12:20 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Bally Sports South.
