Ivins identified Montgomery as one of the top quarterbacks after the first day, alongside Ohio State commit Tavien St. Clair, Texas A&M commit Husan Longstreet, and Alabama commit Keelon Russell, who Ivins noted have pulled ahead of the competition.
“Ryan Montgomery stood out to me,” Ivins said on the 247Sports Football Recruiting Podcast. “He’s an accurate passer and an elite processor, which is hard to showcase in this setting. His arm strength was among the best out here. I would have rated him in the top five for today.”
Montgomery, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 215 pounds, has been committed to Georgia for just over two months. He committed to the Bulldogs on April 17 after considering offers from Florida and South Carolina. Montgomery is set to be a four-year starter at Findlay High School in Ohio, where he has already amassed 7,584 passing yards, 89 touchdown passes, 740 rushing yards, and 15 rushing touchdowns over three seasons. His impressive play in 2023 earned him Player of the Year honors from The Toledo Blade and made him a finalist for Ohio’s Mr. Football award.
Before his junior season, Montgomery showcased his accuracy by winning the quarterback accuracy challenge at Under Armour’s Future 50 camp. He followed that up with a stellar junior season, completing 68.6% of his passes for 3,377 yards and 38 touchdowns. He also set a school record with six touchdown passes in a single game, surpassing the previous record held by Ben Roethlisberger. Montgomery’s efforts helped Findlay achieve eight wins and a state playoff appearance.
After day one of the Elite 11 Finals, Montgomery ranked No. 5 in 247Sports’ rankings, trailing only St. Clair, Russell, Longstreet, and Missouri commit Matt Zollers. Despite not being included in the Elite 11’s initial Top 11 ranking before the pro day and accuracy challenge workouts, Montgomery has proven himself to be a top contender.
Ivins also praised Montgomery’s mobility and potential fit at Georgia. “He may not be the most dynamic athlete, but he can move the chains with his legs on Friday nights,” Ivins said. “I love the fit at Georgia. He’s a high-floor prospect who can win games. Comparing him to Carson Beck coming out of high school, I don’t see much difference. I love that fit.”
Montgomery’s performance at the Elite 11 Finals has solidified his status as a top quarterback prospect, and his future at Georgia looks promising.
