Latest Updates: Bruins Reportedly Leading Rivals in Pursuit of 25-Year-Old Talent…
The Boston Bruins are making headlines in the NHL trade rumor mill this offseason, largely due to interest in their goalie Linus Ullmark. However, Bruins’ GM Don Sweeney is also eyeing potential acquisitions, notably forward Martin Necas of the Carolina Hurricanes.
Bruins’ Interest in Martin Necas
According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, the Bruins are among several teams interested in Martin Necas, a restricted free agent who is looking for a change from the Carolina Hurricanes. With Carolina needing to manage cap space for other key contracts, they are open to offers for Necas.
Competition and Challenges
LeBrun reports that around five to seven teams have shown serious interest in Necas, including Winnipeg, Chicago, Boston, and Montreal. Despite his impressive performance last season, scoring 53 points in 77 games, the Hurricanes’ asking price remains high.
Bruins’ Trade Prospects
Carolina likely wants an NHL-caliber player along with picks and prospects for Necas. This is problematic for the Bruins, who have limited draft picks and a lower-rated farm system. In contrast, teams like Montreal and Chicago have more to offer. The Canadiens, with a wealth of picks and prospects, and the Blackhawks, with 28 draft picks over the next three years, are well-positioned to make strong offers.
The Bruins are keen on acquiring Martin Necas, but face stiff competition from teams with more assets to trade. Despite their interest, the Bruins may find it challenging to meet Carolina’s demands and secure Necas.
