Breaking: Minnesota Football Secures Top Recruit.
Minnesota has successfully landed a top in-state recruit, beating out several Power 4 competitors.
Commitment Details: Osseo (Minn.) Heritage Christian Academy defensive lineman Abu Tarawallie has committed to the Minnesota football program. The 6-foot-3, 275-pound athlete had offers from Wisconsin, Michigan State, Kansas State, and others. An upcoming official visit with Kansas State has been canceled following his commitment to Minnesota.
Recruitment Journey: “I talk a lot with Minnesota defensive line coach Winston DeLattiboudere, and he’s definitely one of my favorite, if not my favorite coach,” Tarawallie previously said. “I can really talk to him about whatever. Not just football. He’s like a friend or older brother.”
Tarawallie first visited the Gophers last March, where he met Coach DeBo and Coach Fleck. “That was my first time meeting Coach DeBo, and he’s great. I love his personality and he’s very genuine and straightforward. He wanted to make sure I didn’t feel forced to join, but if I did want to join, he’d be very happy, so I really liked that,” Tarawallie said at the time. “It was great to meet Coach Fleck, too. He’s very loud, but it’s a good ‘loud’. He’s very nice as well. His message to me was to stay focused on school first and keep doing what I’m doing.”
Player Rankings: 247Sports rates Tarawallie as a high three-star recruit at an 87, ranking him as the No. 80 defensive lineman in the class and No. 2 in the state.
Minnesota’s 2025 Class: With Tarawallie’s commitment, Minnesota now has 12 recruits in their 2025 class. This includes the top two in-state recruits per 247Sports, Tarawallie and Emmanuel Karmo. Tarawallie joins a defensive line class featuring Torin Pettaway, Enoch Atewogbola, Colin Hansen, and Rhett Hlavacka, providing a true interior presence to the group.
