Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy missed Monday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers due to a “scheduled personal matter,” according to the team. Associate manager Will Venable stepped in to manage the club. Venable acknowledged Bochy’s irreplaceable presence but expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform well in his absence.
Bochy is expected to return for Tuesday’s game against the Tigers. This was the first game Bochy has missed during his tenure with the Rangers, which began last season when he led the team to its first World Series title. Bochy, 69, is in his 27th season as a manager with a regular-season record of 2,122-2,131.
He previously managed the San Diego Padres (1995-2006) and San Francisco Giants (2007-19) before being persuaded out of retirement by Rangers general manager Chris Young in 2023.
