Phillies Manager Disagrees with Rhys Hoskins’ Prediction of Being Booed by Philadelphia Fans

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins predicted in April that he would be booed upon his return to Citizens Bank Park to face the Philadelphia Phillies, his former team.

As Philadelphia hosts Milwaukee in a three-game series starting Monday, it’s time to see if Hoskins’ prediction will come true.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson expressed his disagreement with Hoskins’ expectation of a negative reception. “Everyone here knows his value and contributions to the community and the ballclub,” Thomson stated. “When I arrived in 2018, he was the first player I met in Clearwater. I have nothing but good things to say about him.”

Philadelphia drafted Hoskins in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft, and he hit 148 home runs over six seasons with the team. Unfortunately, Hoskins suffered a season-ending torn ACL during spring training last year.

On January 26, Hoskins signed a two-year, $34 million contract with Milwaukee. In the 2022 season, he had a career-high 145 hits, with 30 home runs, 79 RBI, and a .246/.332/.462 slash line in 156 games. Although he struggled during the Phillies’ 2022 World Series run, hitting just 11-for-69, he did hit six home runs, including four in the NLCS against the San Diego Padres.

In the 2024 season, Hoskins has played in about two-thirds of Milwaukee’s games (40 out of 59), serving as both first baseman and designated hitter. He is tied with shortstop Willy Adames for the team lead in home runs (nine) and ranks third in RBIs (27).
