Drew Gordon, a former NBA player and the older brother of Denver Nuggets star Aaron Gordon, tragically passed away in a crash in Portland on Thursday, May 30. According to TMZ, Drew was driving a three-wheel Vanderhall Carmel when he collided with a GMC Sierra pickup.
Drew, who had a career in professional basketball, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the GMC sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at a hospital. Preliminary investigations revealed that Gordon’s vehicle crossed the center line, leading to the collision with the GMC, officials reported.
At 33, Drew was once a basketball prodigy during his high school years. He played college basketball at UCLA and the University of New Mexico. His professional career included playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, in the G League, and in Europe. He had retired just last year.
Aaron Gordon has not yet publicly commented on his brother’s passing. However, the Denver Nuggets released a statement on Friday expressing their condolences. “The Denver Nuggets organization is devastated to learn about the tragic passing of Drew Gordon,” the statement read.
“Drew was far too young to leave this world, but his legacy will forever live on through his three beautiful children and all of his loved ones. Our hearts are with Aaron and the Gordon family during this extremely difficult time.”
Drew is survived by his wife and three children.
