Royce Lewis’ Return Near for Twins; Edouard Julien Likely to be Optioned to Triple-A

After suffering a severe quadriceps strain on Opening Day, Royce Lewis is set to return to the Minnesota Twins lineup. The third baseman is expected to be back on Tuesday for the road series against the Yankees, much to the excitement of both Lewis and the team.

To make room for Lewis on the roster, it appears that the Twins have optioned second baseman Edouard Julien to Triple-A St. Paul. Although the club has not officially announced this move, it is listed on the Twins’ transition log.

Lewis described his rehab process as mentally challenging due to the uncertainty of his return timeline. He recently completed a six-game rehab stint with the Triple-A Saints, recording four hits in 23 at-bats.

While Lewis was sidelined, Jose Miranda primarily covered third base. Despite dealing with a shoulder issue last season, Miranda has performed well this year, hitting .280 with a .780 OPS, which helped him retain his spot on the roster. Julien, on the other hand, has struggled at the plate this season and will benefit from a less pressure-filled environment in Triple-A.

Julien acknowledged the mental toll of not matching his rookie season’s success, saying, “It’s been tough…You just have to be tough mentally and be stubborn. Trust that everything will work out.”

City Connect Uniforms Reveal

The Twins will unveil their long-awaited City Connect uniforms next Monday, designed in collaboration with Nike. The daylong celebration will start at 6 a.m. at Target Plaza with live art displays, photo opportunities with players and T.C. Bear, live music, and a free lunch while supplies last. Fans will also get their first chance to purchase City Connect merchandise. The Twins will debut the new uniforms in games against the Oakland Athletics on June 14 and 15.

Briefly

The Twins will have Bailey Ober on the mound against the Yankees on Tuesday night, facing Luis Gil, the American League Pitcher and Rookie of the Month for May. The Yankees acquired Gil from the Twins in a 2018 trade for outfielder Jake Cave. The Twins were previously swept by the Yankees last month, going 26 consecutive innings without scoring a run after a leadoff home run in the first game.
