Analyst Explains Why Signing L’Jarius Sneed Was Crucial for the Titans
The Tennessee Titans have completely overhauled their roster and coaching staff this offseason, signaling a new era under head coach Brian Callahan. Fans hope this shift will bring a more modern approach to both offense and defense.
One of the most significant moves by the new regime was acquiring Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to become the team’s No. 1 corner. The Titans promptly signed him to a 4-year, $76.4 million extension, a decision that one analyst believes is vital for the franchise.
Legendary analyst Greg Cosell discussed Sneed’s impact on The Ross Tucker Podcast, stating, “The feeling in the league from a lot of coaches now is that corner play has superseded edge pass-rushing because of the quick-game dimension that the league has evolved into. You need physical, press corners…and Sneed is just an animal.”
Cosell highlighted Sneed’s performance last year, noting his dominance on the outside for the Chiefs. Sneed’s ability to aggressively shut down receivers had a bigger impact than any edge rusher could provide.

The Titans have prioritized revamping their secondary this offseason, also adding former Cincinnati Bengals star corner Chidobie Awuzie to pair with Sneed, creating one of the league’s top cornerback duos.
While Tennessee didn’t heavily invest in edge rushing, the strategy is to lock down the field, giving the pass rush more time to reach the quarterback, aligning with Cosell’s insights.
This new approach marks a significant departure from the strategies employed under former head coach Mike Vrabel.
