The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right-hander Quinn Priester from Triple-A Indianapolis to start in Sunday’s series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Priester, 23, steps in for left-hander Martin Perez, who is currently on the injured list with a left groin strain.
“We’re in a situation where we obviously need a starter with Martin on the IL,” Pirates manager Derek Shelton said. “For Quinn, it’s just a matter of making sure that he keeps the ball on the plate and stays in attack mode.”
Earlier this season, Priester went 0-4 with a 4.33 ERA over five starts with Pittsburgh. In his most recent outing, he allowed just one hit over seven shutout innings for Indianapolis against Triple-A Iowa.
Additionally, the Pirates have placed infielder Alika Williams on the 10-day injured list due to a right wrist sprain. The move is retroactive to Thursday. Williams, 25, is hitting .210 with two RBIs and eight runs in 23 games this season.
