Simeon Barrow, who originally signed with Michigan State in the 2020 class, and Marley Cook, who joined Middle Tennessee State in the 2019 class, have seen their stock rise over the years. C.J. Clark, a 2019 signee with North Carolina State, rounds out this formidable trio. These players are expected to form the core of Miami’s defensive tackle rotation for the upcoming season.
Barrow’s arrival follows his participation in spring practice at Michigan State, stepping in to fill the gap left by Jared Harrison-Hunte, who transferred to SMU post-spring practice. Clark and Cook have already integrated into the Miami system, having taken part in the Hurricanes’ spring drills.
While Miami boasts versatility at the defensive tackle position, it is somewhat inexperienced beyond Barrow, Clark, and Cook. However, edge rushers Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor provide additional depth by shifting inside during passing downs.
Clark’s experience is particularly noteworthy. Over parts of five seasons at North Carolina State, he played in 42 games with 22 starts, operating as both a defensive end and nose tackle in their 3-3-5 scheme. His career stats include 72 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 4.0 sacks. Clark and Cook are projected to be the starting defensive tackles for the Hurricanes, bringing both experience and skill to Miami’s defensive front.
