The Raiders have been handed the second-worst offseason grade in the NFL. At least they fared better than the Cowboys.
I understand. You’re probably tired of hearing about what a mess the Raiders’ offseason has been. Every other article seems to focus on their draft class, Gardner Minshew, or how Minshew’s presence negatively impacted their draft decisions. The silver lining is that the Raiders have little chance to further ruin their offseason as Memorial Day Weekend signals the unofficial end of the NFL offseason. So, you’re likely in the clear.
However, the downside is that we still have four months until the season starts. This means you’ll continue to read about this offseason unless you decide to take a break from the internet (which isn’t a bad idea). Publications like Sporting News will keep releasing grades throughout the summer, and we both know the Raiders won’t fare well on those lists.
Sporting News dealt a harsh blow to the Raiders. In their NFL offseason grades, they ranked Vegas 31st out of 32 teams, assigning them a C- and essentially sending a note home for their parents to sign. However, they did rank above the Cowboys, who also received a C- despite doing almost nothing this offseason. Here’s part of Sporting News’ reasoning:
“The Raiders splurged on Wilkins and used a luxury first-rounder on Bowers despite drafting Michael Mayer in the second round in 2024. They seemed overly focused on reversing course from the brief Josh McDaniels era and didn’t transition smoothly to Antonio Pierce. The most puzzling move was their limited interest in drafting a QB from a strong class. There’s every expectation for them to drop to the bottom of the NFC West.”
So, the main issue revolves around their quarterback situation. This criticism isn’t going away soon. When people start saying you’re less equipped to compete than the Carolina Panthers, you know things are bad. Maybe Gardner Minshew will surprise everyone? He has done it before. In the meantime, it might be worth looking ahead to the 2026 QB class.
