NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell provided an update on Tom Brady’s pursuit of a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday.
Speaking from the spring meetings in Nashville, Goodell indicated that “progress is being made.” However, he also noted that some issues remain.
This comes a few days after reports surfaced about concerns from some teams over Brady owning part of the Raiders while starting his career in the broadcast booth for Fox this upcoming season. These concerns are considered justifiable, given the potential conflict of interest.
Last year, Brady agreed to purchase a small portion of the Raiders from owner Mark Davis. At that time, some within the NFL expressed worries that the seven-time Super Bowl champion might unretire. League rules prohibit players from having ownership stakes in teams while they are active.
Brady and Davis have a prior relationship, including Brady’s acquisition of a minority stake in the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces last year.
Brady is now exploring the business side of sports after retiring from the NFL following the 2022 season. Whether his involvement with the Raiders will come to fruition remains to be seen.
