Rather than making a huge splash, the Phillies are likely to focus on reinforcing their already strong roster. According to David Murphy of the Philadelphia Inquirer, one potential target is Chicago White Sox outfielder Tommy Pham. The well-traveled veteran would be an excellent addition to bolster the Phillies’ bench unit.
“Steady veteran with postseason experience, including that big home run against the Phillies in last year’s NLCS. Signed a one-year deal with the White Sox after spring training,” wrote Murphy.
Pham’s signing with the White Sox was delayed until after Spring Training, making his regular season debut on April 26th. He agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal, which has proven to be a valuable investment for Chicago. Although the White Sox had hoped for better results this season, they are now poised to be sellers at the trade deadline, and turning Pham into prospects would aid their rebuilding efforts.
In just 21 games, Pham has been impressive for the White Sox, posting a slash line of .333/.379/.481 with two home runs, 10 RBI, six doubles, and three stolen bases.
The Philadelphia Phillies will face competition on the trade market for a player of Pham’s caliber. He is capable of playing all three outfield positions and brings with him 31 games of postseason experience, making him a valuable asset for any contending team.
