Paul Maurice, head coach of the Florida Panthers, candidly acknowledged the role of fortune in his team’s advancement to the Eastern Conference Finals. While the Panthers earned their spot to compete for the conference crown, Maurice conceded that some “luck” played a part in their elimination of the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Friday night.
“There are too many possible inflection points when you look at Florida-Boston games,” Maurice said to reporters, according to a CLNS video. “For me to be that arrogant to sit here and say, ‘Well this is how we did it.’ (Expletive) have no idea, right? You can take the last six wins that we have and we could lose every single one of them. We could, it was that tight. They’re a hell of a team. It’s great hockey.”
The tension ran high throughout the six-game series between these Atlantic Division rivals, making it unlikely that players will be exchanging holiday greetings this year. Despite the intensity, comments from Maurice and others reflected a deep mutual respect between the Bruins and the Panthers.
The Panthers’ journey towards the Stanley Cup continues with a best-of-seven series against the New York Rangers. Game 1 is scheduled for Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.
