Saints Coach Dennis Allen Provides Updates on Kool-Aid McKinstry’s Recovery!
New Orleans Saints’ rookie minicamp concluded over the weekend, but one notable absence on the field was second-round pick Kool-Aid McKinstry, who is currently sidelined due to injury. McKinstry, addressing reporters on Saturday, expressed his determination to return to action as soon as possible, although he refrained from providing a specific timeline for his comeback.
“Right now, I’m focusing on rehabbing and working closely with the medical staff to ensure a smart and speedy recovery,” McKinstry stated. “It’s all about getting back on the field in the best possible condition.”
During the NFL Scouting Combine, it was revealed that McKinstry had sustained a Jones fracture in his right foot, presenting a setback as he begins his professional career with the Saints. Despite his injury, McKinstry remained engaged during minicamp, participating in walk-through sessions to stay connected with his fellow rookies and absorb the playbook.
“The coaches have been great in keeping me involved,” McKinstry explained. “Although I can’t participate fully, I’m still able to mentally prepare and stay sharp by observing and going through walk-throughs with the team.”
Once McKinstry fully recovers, the Saints plan to integrate him into their cornerback rotation, which currently features veterans Marshon Lattimore, Alontae Taylor, and Paulson Adebo. Despite McKinstry’s injury, the Saints remain committed to his development, having selected him early in the second round of the draft and expressing confidence in his abilities.
Head coach Dennis Allen praised McKinstry’s talents and versatility, emphasizing his intelligence and instincts on the field. Despite cornerback not being a pressing need for the team, Allen stressed the importance of acquiring top talent and expressed satisfaction with McKinstry’s selection.
“I’m confident in Kool-Aid’s abilities,” Allen remarked. “He’s a versatile player with the intelligence and skills to excel in various roles. We’re excited to see him back on the field and contributing to our defense once he’s fully recovered.”
