Joe Milton III, the first of Tennessee’s trio of draft picks, has put pen to paper on his inaugural NFL contract. The quarterback, who led the Volunteers through a notable 8-4 regular season in 2023, joins New England as their sixth-round pick, bringing his skills to the Patriots’ offense. Announced on Friday afternoon, Milton’s signing marks the beginning of his journey with the team, with his participation in rookie minicamp practices signaling his commitment to the Patriots’ cause.
According to financial estimates, Milton’s rookie deal spans four years, with a total value of $4,203,317, including a guaranteed signing bonus of $183,316.
While Milton takes his place in the Patriots’ ranks, fellow Tennessee draftees Jaylen Wright and Kamal Hadden are yet to finalize their agreements. Nonetheless, all three players have immersed themselves in rookie minicamp activities with their respective new teams.
Wearing No. 19 for New England, Milton steps into his role with determination, following in the footsteps of North Carolina’s Drake Maye, selected as the third overall pick by the Patriots.
Head coach Jerod Mayo emphasizes the importance of collective development, stressing fair competition as the players hone their skills during minicamp sessions. Milton’s arrival follows Tennessee’s recent trend of producing back-to-back drafted quarterbacks, a testament to the program’s talent pipeline.
Hailing from Florida, the 6-foot-5, 246-pound Milton brings a wealth of experience from his collegiate career, having previously showcased his talents at Michigan before transferring to Tennessee. With an impressive track record on the field, Milton’s journey to the NFL has been marked by dedication and hard work.
As Milton and Maye embark on their rookie season together, their camaraderie and shared experiences promise to strengthen the Patriots’ quarterback lineup. With a mutual drive for success, these two rookies are poised to make their mark on the field and contribute to the team’s pursuit of victory.
