Former Georgia Offensive Lineman Austin Blaske Makes Waves with His Remarkable Confidence at North Carolina
Transitioning from Georgia to North Carolina, former offensive lineman Austin Blaske is already turning heads with his assertive presence on the field, drawing comparisons to a former Tar Heel standout.
During his four years at Georgia, Blaske showcased his versatility by practicing at every offensive line position. However, when he entered the transfer portal in December 2023, he had a clear vision of where he wanted to contribute on the line.
Expressing his preference for the interior line, particularly at center or guard, Blaske has secured first-team reps in the middle of the line at North Carolina.
“Being at center is where I thrive,” Blaske explained during spring practice. “I enjoy orchestrating the plays, making calls, and commanding the line. It’s a role I feel most comfortable in and where I believe I can excel.”
Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 310 pounds, Blaske brings both physicality and leadership to the Tar Heels’ offensive line. Head coach Mack Brown commended Blaske’s natural leadership qualities, noting his eagerness to assist quarterbacks and engage in recruiting efforts upon his arrival.
Blaske officially committed to UNC on December 15, eager to establish himself as a key contributor after primarily serving as a reserve at Georgia, where he appeared in 18 games. Despite injuries limiting his playing time last season to just three games, Blaske contributed to Georgia’s back-to-back championship victories in 2021 and 2022 under coach Kirby Smart.
Upon joining the Tar Heels, Blaske prioritized building trust and camaraderie with his new teammates, recognizing the importance of strong relationships within the offensive line unit and across the team.
As one of four new starters on the offensive line, Blaske joins returning starter Willie Lampkin in leading the group. Lampkin praised Blaske’s hunger for success and credited his winning mentality cultivated at Georgia as valuable assets to the team.
Blaske also drew parallels to former UNC center Corey Gaynor, highlighting their shared experiences of transitioning to a new program and assuming leadership roles early on.
Throughout spring practice, Blaske emphasized his commitment to leading by example, setting high standards for himself and his teammates both on and off the field. While acknowledging the prestige associated with Georgia’s football program, Blaske is determined to earn respect at UNC based on his merit and character.
“For me, it’s not about where I came from, but about who I am and what I bring to the table,” Blaske asserted. “I want to be recognized for my contributions and leadership, independent of my past affiliations. That’s my focus and my goal here at North Carolina.”
