Seahawks GM John Schneider has left the door open for the possibility of re-signing free agent running back Rashaad Penny, according to Gregg Bell. Despite Penny’s visit with Seattle last month, he remains unsigned.
Currently, the Seahawks have a full complement of five running backs on the roster, including undrafted free agents George Holani and TaMerik Williams, along with last year’s draft picks Zach Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh, and Kenneth Walker. While this creates a crowded room, the potential for injuries during training camp could create an opportunity for Penny to make a return.
Penny, who was a first-round pick by the Seahawks in 2018, completed his rookie contract with the team. Although Seattle opted not to exercise his fifth-year option, they did re-sign him to a one-year, $5.75 million deal. After a brief stint with the Eagles last year, Penny is now a free agent again.
In 2023, Penny saw limited action with the Eagles, appearing in just three games and recording modest rushing and receiving statistics. Despite this, he remains a notable figure among the 2024 NFL free agents, earning a spot on the Top 100 list.
