Carolina Panthers’ Star Wide Receiver Drops Bombshell About Future with Team!
Highly Touted WR Prospect Indicates Panthers’ Interest in Him…
The Panthers find themselves in a unique situation heading into the 2024 NFL Draft. Following their trade for the first overall pick in the previous year’s draft, they’re without a first-round selection this time around.
This leaves Carolina slated to make their initial pick at No. 33 in the second round. While the team’s draft strategy remains a mystery, one of the premier wide receiver prospects believes he’s on their radar if he happens to slip.
“I’ve had about four or five meetings with the Panthers,” shared Xavier Legette from South Carolina, according to John Crumpler of USA Today. “Our rapport is building, and it feels like they’re banking on me being available in the second round. They’ve made it clear that if I’m still there at 33, they’re taking me.”
Legette emerges as one of the draft’s most captivating wide receiver talents, boasting impressive stats of 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns last season. With his skill set, there’s a strong likelihood he’ll remain on the board when the Panthers are on the clock.
Currently ranked as the 12th-best wide receiver and the 53rd overall prospect on Pro Football Focus’s rankings, Legette is projected to land in the mid-to-late second round. However, if Carolina, also holding pick No. 39, doesn’t want to gamble on losing him, they could opt to secure him at No. 33.
Should that scenario unfold, Legette would bolster the Panthers’ receiving corps, which has already seen improvements this offseason with the acquisition of former Steelers wideout Diontae Johnson.
A trio featuring Johnson, Legette, and Adam Thielen would provide quarterback Bryce Young with fewer excuses for his struggles in 2024. The top pick from the previous year managed just 11 touchdowns against 10 interceptions in 16 games last season.
While there’s a chance Legette could sneak into the first round if other teams share the Panthers’ enthusiasm, he might not have to stray too far to kickstart his NFL journey if he indeed lands in Carolina.
