Duke Blue Devil Basketball Starter Makes Surprising Move, Heading to Missouri Tigers!
In a surprising turn of events, former Duke basketball starter Mark Mitchell has announced his decision to join the Missouri Tigers.
Speculation had been brewing regarding Mitchell’s potential destination, with Missouri emerging as a frontrunner in recent discussions. On Friday, Mitchell, who recently entered the transfer portal on April 9, put an end to the rumors by confirming his commitment to aid Tigers head coach Dennis Gates in elevating the program’s performance after a disappointing 8-24 record last season.
Mitchell, a key player in Jon Scheyer’s inaugural recruiting class at Duke, solidified his position as a full-time starter for the Blue Devils. Over his two seasons, he showcased his talents, averaging 10.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in nearly 28 minutes of play.

However, the 20-year-old, hailing from Kansas City, Kan., appears to be seeking a more central role on the court, something that might not have been feasible at Duke next season. With Duke preparing to welcome highly-touted recruits like Cooper Flagg, Mitchell’s playing time could have been significantly impacted.
By opting for Missouri, the 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward will have the opportunity to play closer to home while striving to achieve the level of prominence he desires, particularly within the competitive SEC. Moreover, his move to Missouri could potentially enhance his prospects for the NBA draft in the coming years.
Mitchell will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Tigers, providing ample opportunity to make his mark on the team and the conference.
