Duke’s Jeremy Roach Declares for NBA Draft and Enters Transfer Portal.
In a surprising move, senior guard Jeremy Roach of Duke men’s basketball announced his decision to enter the 2024 NBA Draft via Instagram on Tuesday night. Alongside this declaration, he has also opted to enter the transfer portal, preserving his final year of college eligibility.
Last year, Roach similarly declared for the draft while keeping his college eligibility intact, providing himself with the option to return to Duke for another season if it proved beneficial. However, this time, it appears he is ready to move on from Cameron Indoor Stadium for good.
Roach’s tenure both on and off the court at Duke has been marked by significant moments in the program’s history. From experiencing Mike Krzyzewski’s final season as head coach to witnessing Jon Scheyer’s debut, Roach has been a part of a Final Four run, an ACC tournament championship, and an ACC regular-season title. His contributions include surpassing 1,000 career points for Duke, earning the team’s MVP honors in his junior year, and securing a spot on the 2023 All-ACC tournament team. Notably, Roach has excelled in both assists and shooting throughout his career.
Yet, Roach’s impact on Duke extends beyond statistics. As a two-time captain, he has been praised for his leadership and level-headed demeanor, guiding the Blue Devils through various challenges.
Despite not being featured in ESPN’s recent NBA mock draft for 2024 and not being considered a top prospect, Roach remains a potential second-round pick for the NBA. Alternatively, he could explore opportunities in the G-League or overseas professional leagues. Should he opt to return to college, Roach will have no shortage of options in the transfer portal.
