Ohio State Confirms Departure of Cornerback Jeff Okudah to the Third NFL Team!
Ohio State confirmed the departure of another experienced cornerback as he heads for his third NFL team.
Once a highly-touted top-five overall pick, Okudah is now set to join the Houston Texans, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The agreement entails a one-year contract with a potential maximum value of $6 million. Details shared by NFL veteran reporter Albert Breer outline a $1.5 million signing bonus, with a base salary of $2.75 million supplemented by $500,000 per-game bonuses.
Selected third overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, Okudah’s initial three years were spent with the Detroit Lions, albeit marred by injury setbacks. Despite challenges, Okudah showcased promise, particularly in his debut season, where he contributed 47 total tackles, four tackles for loss, two passes defended, and one interception, amidst a COVID-19 impacted environment.
The following seasons presented mixed fortunes, with a notable highlight in 2022, where Okudah returned to form, registering 59 total tackles, seven passes defended, one interception, and one forced fumble. However, injuries persisted, limiting his consistency on the field.
Before the 2023 season, Okudah transitioned to the Atlanta Falcons via trade, where he continued to make notable contributions, including 44 total tackles, three passes defended, and one tackle for loss in 13 games during the previous campaign.
Reflecting on his collegiate journey, Okudah’s tenure at Ohio State mirrored his NFL trajectory, with a gradual rise to prominence. Despite a humble start on special teams in his freshman year, he quickly asserted himself as a key component of the defensive rotation, showcasing his potential in critical matchups such as the Cotton Bowl against USC.
Throughout his time at Ohio State, Okudah’s defensive prowess steadily evolved, culminating in a standout sophomore season marked by eight passes defended and 32 total tackles.
As he transitions to the Houston Texans, Okudah’s journey continues, and he is poised to contribute his skills and experience to his new team.
