C.J. Stroud had a rather delayed reaction when he learned about the Buffalo Bills’ decision to trade star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. In fact, he had no reaction at all initially because he was fast asleep. The Texans quarterback, who was caught off guard by the blockbuster trade, shared his thoughts on the matter, revealing that he had been traveling and was completely out of the loop when the trade occurred.
“I was knocked out,” Stroud confessed, recounting his state of slumber upon his return from the West Coast. “I keep my phone under the stairs; I get a lot of phone calls. So I didn’t really know, and I woke up, and my boy Chase B texted me. He’s like, ‘How you feelin’, bro?'”
Despite receiving messages about the trade, Stroud didn’t fully grasp the situation and fell back asleep. It wasn’t until later that he realized what had transpired. Reflecting on the trade, Stroud remarked, “It was cool. It was really fun to see that.”
Having met Diggs previously at the Pro Bowl, Stroud expressed excitement about the prospect of playing alongside him and building upon their existing relationship. He eagerly anticipated the opportunity to collaborate with Diggs on the field as teammates.
Texans coach DeMeco Ryans echoed Stroud’s sentiments, expressing enthusiasm about the addition of Diggs to an already formidable offense. Ryans emphasized Diggs’ track record of excellence, highlighting his achievements as an All-Pro and Pro Bowl player, as well as his consistent production on the field.
The trade came as a surprise to many, given Bills general manager Brandon Beane’s previous assertions that Diggs remained the team’s top receiver. However, Beane explained that ongoing discussions with the Texans ultimately led to the deal being finalized, especially when the Texans offered a second-round pick, which aligned with the Bills’ valuation.
While the departure of Diggs and the earlier loss of Gabe Davis in free agency might raise concerns, Beane reassured fans that the Bills remained committed to contending in the upcoming season. He emphasized that every decision made by the team was with the goal of winning in mind, dispelling any notion that the trade signaled a step back for the Bills.
