Deshaun Watson, the 28-year-old quarterback, is gearing up to rejoin the Cleveland Browns, expressing his enthusiasm as he returns to action.
Arriving early on Monday, April 15, Watson was among the first to join the Browns as they commenced their offseason workouts. The team shared a video capturing Watson’s arrival at the facility, showcasing his upbeat demeanor as he strolled in with his coffee and cleats.
“Glad to be back,” Watson conveyed in the brief footage, signaling his eagerness to return to the field after spending the majority of the past five months rehabilitating his shoulder injury in Los Angeles. The $230 million quarterback underwent surgery on November 21 to address a displaced fracture in his right shoulder.
While the video of Watson’s return garnered attention, it also sparked varied reactions from viewers. Some expressed optimism, welcoming Watson’s comeback and hoping for a successful season ahead. However, others voiced skepticism, questioning his performance on the field considering the significant investment made by the Browns.
Watson’s presence in Cleveland has long been a topic of debate, tracing back to his arrival in 2022 through a high-profile trade that saw the Browns relinquish three first-round picks to acquire him. Despite high expectations, a combination of suspensions and injury setbacks has limited Watson to just 12 appearances over two seasons with the Browns, falling short of the initial anticipation surrounding the trade. In those outings, Watson’s statistics include 2,217 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.
Acknowledging the polarizing nature of Watson’s tenure in Cleveland, it’s evident that the Browns are hopeful for his sustained presence on the field. General manager Andrew Berry emphasized the desire to see Watson contribute more consistently, highlighting the organization’s confidence in him as their starting quarterback.
While Watson’s return to offseason workouts signifies a positive step forward, he remains in a phase of gradual recovery. Having commenced throwing in March, Watson is expected to undergo further conditioning before potentially being fully active by training camp. Despite the ongoing rehabilitation process, Watson exudes confidence in his readiness for the upcoming season, expressing determination to surpass his previous performance levels.
