An All-ACC Defender Eyes Transfer to Duke Basketball

Duke basketball is on the verge of potentially landing a significant transfer, according to recent reports.

Following a series of departures from last season’s roster, which included six players heading to the transfer portal or NBA Draft, head coach Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils are actively looking to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. While they’re set to welcome the No.1 recruiting class, additional additions could further bolster their lineup.

On Monday, On3’s Joe Tipton revealed that Syracuse transfer forward Maliq Brown is scheduled to visit Duke, starting Wednesday and lasting through Friday.

Standing at 6-foot-8, the sophomore forward made his mark with the Orange over the past two seasons. Brown averaged over 20 minutes per game during his tenure, showcasing his versatility by featuring in both starting and bench roles.

In the previous season, Brown demonstrated his capabilities across 32 appearances, averaging 9.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while boasting an impressive field goal percentage of nearly 70%. Notably, he was recognized for his defensive prowess, earning a spot on the All-ACC Defensive Team after averaging 2.2 steals per game.

One of Brown’s standout performances came against Duke in early January, despite the Orange falling to the Blue Devils 86-66 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. He tallied a career-high 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field, along with seven rebounds.

Known for his prowess on the offensive glass, Brown has accumulated 121 offensive rebounds out of his total of 363 throughout his collegiate career.

While his potential role with Duke remains uncertain, Brown’s experience in the ACC could prove invaluable to the Blue Devils. With two years of competitive play under his belt, his addition could provide depth and defensive solidity to the team as they gear up for the upcoming season.
