Cifuentes Reacts to QPR’s Tough Loss to Hull City
Following a crushing 3-0 defeat against Hull City, Marti Cifuentes, the manager of QPR, urged for composure as the team finds themselves precariously positioned just three points above the Championship relegation zone, with only three matches left in the season.
The situation could have been even more precarious had Huddersfield not conceded a last-minute equalizer in their recent 1-1 draw against Bristol City, keeping QPR just two points clear of the danger zone.
Despite securing two consecutive wins previously, which had given them a comfortable six-point buffer, the subsequent string of disappointing results has once again plunged QPR into a nerve-wracking battle to avoid relegation.
However, Cifuentes remains resolute, emphasizing that the current predicament isn’t as dire as it may appear. He reflected on the progress made since he took charge earlier in the season, acknowledging that their current standing would have been considered a dream just five months ago.
Cifuentes commented, “We’re in a position that five months ago or even one month ago we would have dreamed to be in. So now is the moment to be very calm.” He reiterated the anticipated challenges of their journey, emphasizing the need for unity and perseverance, stating, “This will not be easy and I knew this would not be easy.”
Looking ahead, QPR faces a crucial home fixture against Preston on Saturday, followed by a daunting encounter against promotion-chasing Leeds the following Friday. The season culminates with a potentially decisive away match against Coventry on 4 May. With their fate hanging in the balance, Cifuentes emphasizes the importance of staying united and pushing forward as a team.
