Ronnie O’Sullivan under ‘added strain’ for World Snooker Championship as Rocket warned…
Ronnie O’Sullivan is gearing up for this month’s World Snooker Championship with added weight on his shoulders.
With the World Championships looming, John Virgo has issued a warning to The Rocket, suggesting that he must be in top form to secure victory at the Crucible. Despite being the bookmakers’ favorite, Virgo believes that O’Sullivan shouldn’t assume victory is guaranteed.
As the world No.1, O’Sullivan is naturally seen as a strong contender for the World Championship title in Sheffield. A win at this prestigious event would mark his eighth title, establishing him as the record world champion. However, Virgo cautions against assuming it will be a walk in the park for the 48-year-old.
Speaking to The Metro, the veteran commentator remarked, “It’s difficult to overlook Ronnie, as he’s shown in the UK and the Masters, he really performs on the big stage. However, he’ll be feeling a bit disappointed after his loss at the Tour Championship, which was reminiscent of his defeat to Luca Brecel in last year’s World Championship.”
O’Sullivan suffered a setback in the Tour Championship final against Mark Williams, losing seven consecutive frames to the eventual winner. Virgo points to these occasional vulnerabilities in O’Sullivan’s game as indicators that his competitors could capitalize on at the Crucible.
“So for those who believe Ronnie just needs to show up and he’ll win if he puts his mind to it, that’s far from the truth. He needs to be at his best. Ronnie understands that, but experiencing a loss like that will certainly be jarring,” Virgo explained.
