Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has acknowledged the lack of quality in his team’s performance following their 1-0 loss to Norwich City.
Despite a remarkable run of form leading up to the East Anglian Derby, where Ipswich had secured nine wins from their last ten Championship matches, they faced disappointment at Carrow Road. The Tractor Boys, who hadn’t won a derby against the Canaries since April 2009 and hadn’t tasted victory at Carrow Road in over 18 years, entered the match as favorites but couldn’t break their streak.
Marcelino Nunez’s free-kick just before halftime secured the victory for Norwich City, leaving Ipswich unable to convert any of their 10 shots on goal despite dominating possession with 63%.
McKenna, speaking after the match, admitted that the game lacked quality from both sides and pointed out his team’s failure to maintain intensity, particularly considering it was their third match in just eight days.

“We didn’t reach our peak performance level, and it wasn’t a particularly high-quality game overall. Neither team created many clear-cut chances,” McKenna stated. “Despite controlling possession, we lacked intensity and bravery on the ball, especially in the first 20 minutes. However, apart from a period of vulnerability during set plays, where some decisions felt soft, I felt we were largely in control of the game.”
The defeat puts Ipswich’s position at the top of the Championship table in jeopardy, highlighting the need for improvement as they continue their campaign.
