Today’s OBR Newswire is light on content, but Barry is back with his unsolicited opinions, some moderately interesting links, and the usual routine. It’s worth giving it a quick glance.
Greetings, Cleveland Browns enthusiasts!
This Daily Newswire is here to update you on the latest Browns news, including items we didn’t cover on the front page. It also compiles links to everything posted on the OBR the day before. And yes, it’s also where I share my random thoughts because, in real life, people tend to silence me when I start sharing my opinions.
One thing I often delve into is discussing the site itself—when things are going well, when they’re not, and my aspirations for this platform. I understand that most people are just here for Browns news and analysis, but since the OBR Daily Newswire is where I share whatever is on my mind that might be relevant to my audience, I continue to discuss it. Today, I’ll touch on that, so please bear with me as I navigate this detour, but I’ll get to the point soon.
One of the joys of writing this Daily Newswire and interacting with you all every day is the number of Browns fans who have shared their stories with me. I’ve formed new friendships and connections, had some wonderful conversations, and feel more connected to Browns fans than I have in years. While the Daily Newswire hasn’t garnered the massive audience I had hoped for, it has resonated with many, and that brings me immense satisfaction.
However, this past week has been challenging for someone who gets to do what he loves for a living. Why? Because of the Browns’ relatively quiet free agency period. While the franchise’s newfound stability is fantastic for many reasons, the lack of significant activity didn’t bring the usual surge in traffic and new subscribers we typically see in March. This has thrown off all my financial projections and plans for the year, causing some concern and self-pity.
But then, out of nowhere, I received an email.
It was from someone who hadn’t reached out to me before but had been writing for fan sites for the past fifteen years. He shared a story he wrote during the lowest point of his Browns fan experience in 2016, when Jimmy Haslam had just taken over the franchise. He recounted a home game against the Steelers, surrounded by a stadium that was barely half-full, filled with yellow towels. He reflected on how Browns fans often accepted their status as masochists, enduring endless heartbreak over the years.
Reading his article reminded me once again of how Browns fans deserve better after enduring decades of disappointment and betrayal. If there’s a group of people who have remained loyal despite countless setbacks, it’s the orange and brown faithful who fill the stadium year after year.
They deserve so much more.
