Leyton Orient suffered a last-minute defeat against Lincoln City in a Sky Bet League One fixture on Friday. Despite a valiant effort throughout the game, Orient found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline when substitute Jovon Makama netted for the hosts in the closing stages.
Manager Richie Wellens made a tactical alteration from their previous victory over Stevenage, bringing in Jordan Brown to replace Joe Pigott, who started on the bench. The match began with both teams evenly matched, with Orient having the first notable chance as Darren Pratley’s effort was tipped over by Lincoln’s goalkeeper Lukas Jensen.
Despite Lincoln’s prolific scoring record in recent games, Orient managed to keep them at bay until the 41st minute when Joe Taylor squandered an opportunity for the hosts. The first half ended goalless.
In the second half, Ruel Sotiriou and Shaq Forde tested Jensen with shots from the left and right flanks respectively, but were unable to break the deadlock. Orient’s defense held firm until the dying minutes when Makama capitalized on a defensive error to secure victory for Lincoln.
Despite the disappointment, Orient will look to bounce back when they face Peterborough United at Gaughan Group Stadium on Monday. The late defeat was a bitter pill to swallow for Orient, who had matched Lincoln for much of the game and created several promising chances of their own. Now, they must regroup and focus on their upcoming fixture to turn their fortunes around.
