Deshaun Watson: “in a good spot”
Deshaun Watson Provides Positive Update on Rehab Progress…
Deshaun Watson recently marked a milestone in his recovery journey, throwing for the first time since sustaining a season-ending right shoulder injury. Browns General Manager Andrew Berry, speaking at the annual owners meetings, expressed confidence that the quarterback is on track for a timely return at the beginning of the upcoming season.
During his appearance on the “QB Unplugged” podcast with quarterbacks coach Quincy Avery, Watson echoed this optimism about his rehabilitation progress.
“The situation is looking good,” Watson remarked, as reported by Jeff Schudel of the News-Herald. “We’re right where we need to be, in a great spot. We have ample time to gradually increase the intensity of throwing sessions and other activities, and everything seems to be progressing smoothly.”
Watson didn’t delve into specifics regarding his rehab regimen, such as the frequency of his throwing sessions or the distances involved.
Coach Kevin Stefanski hinted that Watson might be sufficiently advanced to engage with the team’s receivers during organized team activities in the near future.
Watson’s injury saga began with a diagnosis of a micro tear in his right rotator cuff in September, followed by a shoulder fracture suffered on November 12 during a game against the Ravens. He underwent surgery on November 21 to address the displaced fracture to the glenoid.
Since his trade from Houston, Watson, 28, has only managed to appear in 12 out of a possible 34 games. Nonetheless, the Browns boast an 8-4 record in the games he’s played.
With Joe Flacco stepping in for Watson late last season and guiding the Browns to the playoffs, and Flacco opting to join the Colts in free agency, the Browns secured Jameis Winston as Watson’s backup, reinforcing their quarterback depth chart.
