“I must say…”: Newcastle United star makes frank admission over form ahead of the West Ham United clash…

Newcastle United’s Dan Burn has candidly addressed his struggles this season ahead of the upcoming clash against West Ham United, expressing determination to silence his critics.

Having enjoyed a stellar start to his tenure at St James’ Park following a £13 million move from Brighton and Hove Albion in January 2022, Burn played a pivotal role in Eddie Howe’s side’s ascent from the relegation zone to mid-table safety. His consistent performances were instrumental in Newcastle’s journey to their first major cup final since 1999 and their return to Champions League contention.

However, the current campaign has seen Burn face scrutiny over his form, with calls for Tino Livramento to replace him in the starting lineup. In an interview with BBC Sport, Burn acknowledged the challenges Newcastle has encountered this season, including a spate of injuries and the mental strain of European football.

Reflecting on his personal struggles, Burn admitted to facing difficulties in maintaining consistency against the world’s top players. Despite not reaching the heights of his previous season, Burn remains resolute in his determination to prove his detractors wrong.

“It’s been tough personally,” Burn remarked. “You’re playing against the best players in the world. It’s all about consistency at this level, and when you’re not performing consistently, criticism follows. I haven’t hit the heights I did last season, but I’m still enjoying it and want to prove people wrong.”

Acknowledging the doubters he has faced throughout his career, Burn emphasized his commitment to hard work and improvement. As Newcastle prepares to face West Ham United, Burn is poised to reclaim his place in the starting lineup, aiming to showcase his resilience on the pitch.
