Webster’s move to Bristol City in the summer of 2018 marked the beginning of his ascent to Premier League stardom. However, just a season later, he found himself at Brighton, commanding a significantly higher fee. This rapid rise may leave Ipswich Town officials contemplating whether they maximized their gains from the initial deal.
Arriving at Ipswich ahead of the 2016/17 season, Webster quickly established himself as a key player. His impressive performances over two seasons caught the eye of Bristol City, who secured his services for a reported £3.5 million, with potential additional clauses that could have increased the fee substantially.
While the initial move seemed like sound business for Ipswich, the subsequent transfer to Brighton for a club-record fee of £20 million casts a shadow over their earlier dealings.
