Danielle Hunter, the newest addition to the Houston Texans, recently shed light on his decision to join the team despite receiving a more lucrative offer from the Indianapolis Colts.
Despite reports suggesting Hunter had opted for the highest bidder, it appears that wasn’t the case. According to Stephen Holder of ESPN, the Colts presented Hunter with a more substantial offer than the one he eventually accepted from the Texans.
Hunter’s contract with the Texans spans two years and amounts to $49 million, with an impressive $48 million guaranteed. Although specifics regarding the Colts’ offer remain undisclosed, factors such as contract structure and Texas’ lack of state income tax may have contributed to making the Texans’ proposal more appealing to Hunter.
However, beyond financial considerations, Hunter’s decision may have been influenced by personal factors. Raised in the Houston area, Hunter expressed a desire to return to his roots and be closer to family and friends.
Speaking on his signing with the Texans, Hunter conveyed his gratitude, emphasizing the significance of playing in front of his hometown crowd: “It means a lot. It’s an honor to be able to come back and play in front of my family and all the people that I grew up with. I know they’ve been pretty excited about the news lately. They’ll finally be able to come to a game and see me play.”
With Hunter’s arrival, the Texans aim to maintain their competitive edge in the AFC South, while perhaps leaving the Colts with a tinge of regret over the pass rusher they missed out on.
