Finnie’s impressive journey in the 2023-24 season with the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Hockey League (WHL) showcased his talent. He notched up 19 goals and 40 assists, reaching a career-high of 59 points in 62 games. Finnie’s stellar performance didn’t go unnoticed as he led the Blazers in all major scoring categories. It’s noteworthy that Kamloops ended the season at the bottom of the WHL standings, contrasting their previous year’s hosting of the 2023 KIA Memorial Cup, where budding talents like Logan Stankoven and Olen Zellweger shone for Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks respectively.
Hailing from Lethbridge, Alberta, Finnie was picked No. 201 overall by the Red Wings in the 2023 NHL Draft. In his draft year, he exhibited potential with nine goals and 26 assists, accumulating 35 points in 64 games. Finnie’s consistency in the latter part of the season was particularly impressive, marked by a notable 15-game point streak where he amassed eight goals and 14 assists, totaling 22 points.

Finnie’s next stop is with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, on an amateur tryout contract (ATO). The Griffins currently hold the second spot in the Central Division, boasting a record of 31-18-7-4 and 73 points from 60 games. With 12 games remaining in the regular season, Finnie’s addition adds depth and talent to the Griffins’ roster, promising an exciting future for both him and the Red Wings organization.
